In August, our cofounder & CTO @seangeng wrote about GPUs staying in service far longer than depreciation schedules assume.
Six weeks later, the rental price of old chips went up.
→ H100 (2022) on-demand is up 16% vs a year ago
→ CoreWeave raised prices ~25% across every SKU in July and signed A100s (2020) through 2029
→ Nebius raised H100 rates 17% on Oct 1, its second hike in three months
→ AWS raised reserved GPU prices 20% in July after 15% in January
Most schedules write a GPU to zero in five or six years. The hourly rate on a four-year-old chip rose this year.
CME planned to launch futures on GPU rental prices on October 5, but the CFTC extended its review through November 9.
The issue is that there still isn’t a trusted market price for GPU compute. Most pricing happens in private deals, making it difficult to build a reliable benchmark for buyers trying to hedge future costs.
The fact that companies increasingly need financial products just to manage the price of compute says a lot about where the market is heading.
For teams that need reliable access and predictable economics, there’s another option: own the underlying compute instead of continually buying exposure to the rental market.

what one neocloud raised on oct 1:
1. RAM: +41%
2. AMD CPU cores: +25%
3. B300: +21%
4. H200: +20%
5. B200: +19%
6. H100: +17%
that's nebius's on-demand price list. i flagged the CPU rise in september. what i missed: the biggest rise on the list is plain memory, ahead of every GPU.
separately, on wednesday AWS raises its reserved GPU blocks 15% across B300, B200, H200 and H100.
so the memory squeeze is now showing up on a cloud price list. trendforce sees DRAM contract prices up another 10-15% this quarter, so i don't think the RAM line is done.
imo this is what a broad shortage of chips looks like. $NBIS
base:0xb3b32f9f8827d4634fe7d973fa1034ec9fddb3b3 was up 40%+ in the final week of September, wouldn’t complain about another week like that lol
B3IQ is building a neocloud where you own the NVIDIA hardware, with the option to have it built and hosted in Oregon
You decide whether it runs your own AI workloads or makes capacity available to others
I’d like to see the GPU usage numbers alongside that chart

B3IQ wants to let you buy a $500,000 Nvidia GPU system with just 30% down and have AI companies pay off the rest.
Instead of renting compute from AWS or another cloud provider, customers purchase their own GPU servers through B3IQ, thhe company procures the hardware, installs it in its US data facilities and handles the hosting, power, cooling and maintenance.
Customers can buy the machine outright or use B3IQ’s financing model and the buyer puts roughly 30% down, while the remaining 70% is financed through income generated by the machine.
@b3labs matches the server’s unused capacity with AI labs that need GPUs for training or inference and those customers pay a fixed rate to run workloads on the machine, helping the owner pay down the remaining balance.
The company calls this a GPU mortgage and it is similar to buying a rental property with financing: the customer owns the asset, outside users generate rental income and B3IQ operates everything in the middle.
B3IQ’s most important product is the software layer connecting both sides because it takes privately owned GPU capacity and matches it with AI labs looking for compute, creating an Airbnb style marketplace for GPUs.
B3IQ syas that some $500,000 machines could pay themselves off in roughly two years and after that, the owner can continue renting the server, use it privately or potentially move it elsewhere.
The simplest way to understand B3IQ is that it combines a neocloud, an equipment financing company and a compute marketplace and Customers own the GPUs, AI labs rent them and B3IQ operates the infrastructure connecting both sides.

Yes. $VVV did 3000%+ on privacy AI. $B3 is lined up for the ownership version. #B3IQ = real GPU ownership in a shared neocloud, not endless rental.
Still early. Still ignored. $B3 recovery will melt faces

Seeing how much attention AI x crypto has been getting lately, I’ve been looking at some of the names that aren’t getting enough attention.
$B3 is one that stands out to me.
What makes B3 particularly interesting is the B3IQ approach to building a neocloud around shared ownership rather than simply offering another layer of compute access.
That infrastructure model is what got me digging deeper into @b3dotfun

B3 is the Airbnb of compute.
Here's why the Neoclouds aren't their competition.
"The Neoclouds are like hotels. They're the Marriotts. Very well financed. Lots more money than they know what to do with."
B3 is just Airbnb. Spinning up distributed supply that didn't exist before.
Previously, finding spare GPU capacity meant texting a friend who texted a friend. The marketplace creates transparency "where none exists right now."

Purchasing GPUs is hard.
B3IQ isn’t a reseller. We give buyers direct access to purchase and help monetize their idle compute.
Instead of marking up the hardware, B3IQ earns a percentage of the offtake contracts we secure.
In 2009, NVIDIA shipped about 100 million GPUs a year. A couple of doctors at Mass General brought Jensen Huang a project where the best case was a research paper and an order for two or three GPUs.
He said yes. In this interview from that year, Huang walks through how prioritizing that small buyer led to a breakthrough in medical imaging and net-new demand for NVIDIA GPUs across the medical industry.
Buyers that size are often overlooked, but at B3 we see both the economic and societal potential of building for them. Early owners of B3IQ include faculty, researchers, and student teams at universities who run private, unmetered inference on dedicated GPU systems they own.
Why rent GPUs when you can #ownthemetal? #B3IQ delivers US-assembled systems with private single-tenant hardware, predictable costs & optional idle earnings. High utility makes ownership the clear winner.

We compared renting GPUs in the cloud with owning a B3IQ system.
Renting works for short bursts. An owned system handles those too, at a predictable cost, with your data on hardware nobody else shares. Andromeda assembles our systems in the U.S.
Owners can rent out idle time as well. It's optional, and what it pays depends on demand and program terms.

People have no idea the transformation that we've gone through as a company, truly mind blowing.
Started in crypto gaming, acquired an industry leading gaming systems integrator, scaled that business + launched our AI / compute business recently.
Many failures along the way, but never bet against ex-@coinbase founders. We never gave up, kept building throughout the bear on something real.
Now @b3labs is solving complex problems + scaling to meet the massive success & demand we're seeing in AI.
Our ambition is to democratize compute: distributing ownership of H200, B300, 6000s & future blackwell + latest gen AI hardware to more individuals...
This speaks to the ethos of crypto (democratize finance = democratize power = democratize intelligence), and most are sleeping on what this entails for the base:0xb3b32f9f8827d4634fe7d973fa1034ec9fddb3b3 token & our community.
We hope you'll join us on this mission.
What’s one crypto you think is seriously underrated right now and deserves way more attention than it’s getting?
Altcoin dominance has broken out of nearly 2-years downtrend.
Could this finally be the start of altcoin season?

7 in 10 Americans don't want an AI data center built near them, per @Gallup in March.
That opposition shows up in permitting fights and in what lenders will finance. Demand for compute keeps climbing anyway, and teams renting GPUs wait on capacity someone else has to build.
See why owning compute is becoming a hedge against the backlash.

The biggest moat in the world right now is access to COMPUTE
Meta's new Muse agent hasn't even hit 1 million users and it's struggling to serve them
Whether the compute is used for better models, better products, replacing digital labour or even physical labour, its compute that makes it work
If you can't get compute (which is the most in demand / scarce product in the world right now), then you can't function
I don't think the market fully understands this yet. The winners in AI won't just be whoever has the best model, it'll be whoever can actually SERVE it
Elon definitely understands this and it's why I think SpaceX and Tesla win in the long run:
SpaceX went from 400MW of compute a year ago to 1.4GW by June, and expects 2GW+ by year end and 10GW by EOY 2027 (wow)
OpenAI and Anthropic are also doing everything they can to buy more compute and they are expected to take on 50% of all the new compute that comes online in 2027
Whoever gets the most of that compute wins, plain and simple
I dont hold $SPCX in my portfolio becuase of rockets, I hold it becuase I think they will own the most compute by the end of next year. A big part of my portoflio is positioned around this.
