We used acoustic detectors to survey insectivorous bats over a 2-year period at the Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project (#BDFFP) in Brazil. We sampled 33 sites, comprising continuous old-growth forest, remnant fragments and regenerating secondary forest matrix.

This work is the result of many months of a fantastic field work experience at the #BDFFP project, the world’s longest project to understand the effects of forest fragmentation in Central Amazonia. A huge thanks to the field assistants, in particular to Renann Dias Silva. (7/8)

My PhD fieldwork took place at the Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project, which T Lovejoy started in the 70s. Despite spending >2.5 years (2011-2014) in the field - including multiple weeks at the famous Camp 41 - I never had the chance to cross paths with him. #BDFFP

#OpwallGuyana 2013.7.20 - Turtle Mountain - Pteronotus rubiginosus is only 1 of 2 species of bats that use constant frequency echolocation to hunt insects in the forest of Iwokrama - #ROMinthefield - looks like it will be 2 years before we get back to the rainforest of Iwokrama
