A message from Ron regarding this year's Conference theme:
OWN IT! is a philosophy that permeates every aspect of our business.
Although we manage growth equity mutual funds, we regard ourselves as business owners, not stock traders. That means we focus on fundamentals: the competitive advantages and exceptional executives of high character that we believe are the keys to a company’s long-term success. We favor managements who are as personally invested in the success of their companies as we are.
We own our investment decisions. The hardest part of what we do is knowing when not to sell. That means remaining true to our long-term fundamentally based investment process by staying the course during market declines. It also means owning our mistakes. While it can take years before we decide we want to invest in a particular company, when we determine that our investment premise is wrong or growth prospects are no longer favorable, we will sell. All decisions are based on our fundamental research, not opinions of others.
We are a family business. All our portfolio managers have significant personal investments in the funds they manage. All our employees have substantial investments in Baron mutual funds and benefit from the growth of our business.
It is this mindset that enables us to support our clients and allows them to build wealth. Own It!
