Parcel Controversy Explainer This week has seen robust discussion regarding parcels. It's been a lot for people to follow. The crux of the debate has been interpretation of bitmap theory re: parcels. Any decentralized protocol requires definitions, and the simpler those definitions are, the better. This enables maximum interoperability. Their parcels are not children of the Bitmap. Instead, they utilize a JSON inscription, which enables priv auth, in other words, the ability for them to use their platform to parcelize a Bitmap. The Natrix parcels are children not of the Bitmap itself, but the JSON file. The crux of the discussion has been an interpretation of the bolded sentence. The commonly held interpretation understanding is that parcels must be children of the Bitmap, using parent-child. The point of parent-child is that it ensures that the creator of the child inscription was the holder of the parent at the time the child was inscribed. This is what confers provenance. Not some JSON priv auth inscription. Any doubt about that interpretation was put to rest this week when Bitoshi weighed in, clarifying that the Natrix "parcels" are not parcels. Not because Bitoshi is king of Bitmap - not at all, it's a decentralized project, and anyone can do what they want - but because he is the person who wrote the words in question, and knows what he meant when he wrote them. At this point, anyone insisting on an alternate interpretation of parcels is doing so in bad faith. That being said, as Bitoshi acknowledged, it's a fork, and there's nothing stopping anyone from forking Bitmap. No one is asking Block Runner to stop developing their "solutions". All we ask is truth in advertising. Your "parcels" are not parcels. And you are not building "on Bitmap".
