At Midpen, #CABiodiversityWeek hits home because the Santa Cruz Mountains sit at the center of a large hotspot for biodiversity. The area is so biologically rich because the region’s variable geology and climate create a mosaic of habitats that support many different species.
Midpen is primarily focused on maintaining and improving high biodiversity and the ecological health of your public open space lands. To do this, we've developed ecologically sensitive vegetation management practices that support native species habitats. #CABiodiversityWeek
At some vistas in the Santa Cruz Mountains, it can be easy to forget that major roadways run straight through the middle of your view. Barriers like Highway 17 prevent habitat connectivity, which in turn can negatively impact biodiversity in our region. #CABiodiversityWeek
Many factors can effect biodiversity. Serpentine soils, for example, contain high levels of heavy metals and low levels of essential nutrients like nitrogen. Only highly adapted plant species can live in such a harsh environment. #CABiodiversityWeek
