Within just 2 hours of sweeping the floor, if this much black dust accumulates again, how much of it is going into our lungs?
Weather-wise when seasonal wind direction in Vizag changes to SW during summer and monsoon season, this menace peaks. The industries and coal yards to the SW of Vizag should be the major contributor to this pollution.
Though this issue has been highlighted by residents since several years, no effective prevention measures have been taken so far.
Given that this black dust could be a combination of Coal dust + several other mineral pollutants, chronic inhalation of these can cause several dangerous lung diseases including COPD.
This is a significant public health risk and urgent preventive action is the need of the hour.
Requesting authorities to take cognizance of the situation and take suitable action.
