One of the things we are greatly lacking in Uganda’s performing arts industry is state-of-the-art facilities equipped with modern technology and purpose-built spaces designed to accommodate audiences and performers alike. But somewhere in Lubowa, there is a theatre that has been quietly operating, and tonight, it is where Maurice Kirya is performing live. This is the International School of Uganda Performing Arts Theatre. As Uganda’s creative and performing arts industry continues to grow, there is a need for more investment in facilities of this nature, whether through Government or private investors — with larger, modern spaces that can accommodate bigger audiences and provide artists with the right environment to showcase their talent. We need more of these facilities across the country if we are to give Uganda’s creative industry the infrastructure it deserves.
