@andymckay @martynschmoll @ellisonmallin Well at least better than Hanson, Forbes and Muri. Let’s remember Councillor Hanson couldn’t bring himself to support the original #Delbrooklands housing project. Who remembers #wecandobetter https://t.co/rlp5ccUkO0
We all remember the rocky start that this Council had on the affordable housing file, rejecting two projects eligible for BC Housing funding. The first project rejected was at the #DelbrookLands in November 2018. https://t.co/mr5kCh5rzV
Last Monday five members of Council voted against 80 affordable rental homes and a seniors respite centre on District of #northvan land.
This Monday, I will ask them to support 800 affordable rental homes on District owned land.
What do you think?
It’s inspiring to see the great work @catalyst_cds is doing to make a real difference in people’s lives.
Still so very disappointed at how poorly they were treated by the District of #northvan Council on the #DelbrookLands project 3 years ago. . .

@NorthVanTam1 @BrentRichter I look forward you schooling @jimhanson_bns on the need for more #AffordableHousing in #northvancouver #DelbrookLands #WeCanDoBetter
Council had the opportunity to have 80 non-market homes at the #DelbrookLands had they said yes instead of no. Those homes would have been almost ready to move in by now.
@Lanefab @mrmathewbond @michaelgeller @lisamuri_nv As I previously posted from @BrentToderian: You can’t be a credible #ClimateAction supporter and an opponent of smart action for dense & diverse new housing. Those two positions aren’t compatible. #DelbrookLands #InnovationDistrict #missingmiddle #NorthVan
4+ However at the beginning of the term, we had the #DelbrookLands proposal with overwhelming community opposition and not a lot of parking.
Calls from Council: “But where will people park? On the street in the neighbourhood? More parking!”
@jen_keesmaat @wrychrd I would add NIMBY's masquerading as 'community associations' to the list of voices over represented during public consultations. #affordablehousing #PBR #Delbrooklands
So next Tuesday is the public hearing for the scaled back (by a single story), partnerless #affordablehousing pre-zoning at the #DelbrookLands in #northvan District.
Some email opposition is starting to come in. 1/
It's not just Vancouver, the north shore isn't any better. It appears @NVanDistrict Council has no plans to address the need for #affordablehousing or #PBR. #Delbrooklands #MaplewoodInnovationDistrict #DNVOCP #missingmiddle
Zero neighbourhoods in Vancouver are considered affordable for low income earners https://t.co/v9tRC9GnUP via @NEWS1130
@mrmathewbond @michaelgeller Elected decision maker: "Of course we need more #affordablehousing in our communities, and I've always been a champion for the development of affordable housing in the District. Just not here." #Delbrooklands #MaplewoodInnovationDistrict
@martynschmoll I'd add - if a CA has only a handful of active members (who are continually rotating through the association's BoD) it shouldn't be recognized as speaking on behalf of the entire community. #Delbrooklands #affordablehousing #missingmiddle #MaplewoodInnovationDistrict
@jimhanson_NV But where? You and members of the Mayor Little slate (yes it was a slate) have already voted against at least two affordable housing projects in the District. Your tweets don't match your voting record. #Delbrooklands #affordablehousing #NorthVancover @NorthShoreNews #PBR
@cameronmaltby @martynschmoll @NVanDistrict It isn't just pedestrians that would appear to be unwelcome in the @NVanDistrict Let's not forget about the #missingmiddle #affordablehousing #Delbrooklands #MaplewoodInnovationDistrict
“...one of the biggest contributors to traffic is lack of affordable housing which means people who work on the North Shore are mostly commuting in over the bridges from other areas. We are generating our own traffic problems...” - Bowinn Ma #Delbrooklands #BurrPlace #northvan
“Many housing proposals require public hearings ... these land use forums may be vulnerable to capture by advantaged neighborhood residents eager to preserve home values, exclusive access to public goods, and community character.“ #northvan #DelbrookLands https://t.co/7Ut3fOWHzn
To highlight the pattern, here’s a previous discussion with @pricetags including the #delbrooklands and @NSCRConnect Community Housing Action Committee funding. https://t.co/f6lAQYEO2A
Strong words for #northvan Council on #Delbrook #AffordableHousing:
Starting at 13:56:
"We elect public officials to represent our best interests. When they abdicate responsibility by kicking something back to a community association, they have failed miserably in their jobs."
Strike 1: Reject 80 affordable homes #delbrooklands
Strike 2: Take away 💵 for @NSCRConnect Community Housing Action Committee.
Strike 3: https://t.co/jsZMStvgQR
Sad that #NoNewHomes is more important than #AffordableHousing in #DistrictofNoVancouver #DoNothingVigorously
