@kirstyyfranklin #WSTC6 #DigSesh3 Seabird guano has been harvested almost continuously in Peru since 1850s. Now, although no perfect, harvesting is more sustainable. Guano is sometimes removed from the whole island, a portion or not harvested to protect other spp. Our results would improve manag.
@penguin_nati There is an established count protocol for birds where their density has been measured. This density has been determined for each spp and breeding status. However, it still needs to be improved #WSTC6 #DigSesh3
@noneeguritno We did another study where it was proven that there is no effect of drone sound on a breeding cormorant colony (https://t.co/5FZBZgKK7Y), possibly because the bird colony sound is louder. #WSTC6 #DigSesh3

@MartinAustad This is really interesting @MartinAustad! Did you have any nest abandoment when it got really hot? In my petrel camera traps (#WSTC6 pres here: https://t.co/5d2BwZrWcd) I regularly saw birds leaving at the hottest parts of the day & returning later #DigSesh3
4/4 #WSTC6 #DigSesh3 Tick numbers were higher inside than outside infested colonies. The results reveal that the use of #timelapsecameras in #booby colonies is feasible for the determination of #reproductivesuccess and for the identification of causes of #nestabandonment.

@noneeguritno #WSTC6 #DigSesh3 The pop of boobies on the island was > 100,000 pairs. We used a small area with 600 nests. When we removed the guano, birds were absent.
