#DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityParking must be for #PWDs ●This is my friend's encounter in 2023 #DisablityParking ♿️ ●She wrote this on Facebook Page 👇🏼 #ThisIsHerStory DISHEARTENING EXPERIENCE AT Redemption Church South Africa of Joshua McCauley - WHEELCHAIR USER. Today, my family and I faced a deeply disappointing situation at Redemption Church Greenstone. As a wheelchair user, we’ve visited before without issues, but this morning left us hurt and frustrated. Upon arrival we drive in to the parking space that’s in front of the church and proceed to the wheelchair parking space (as we used to do in the past), a man tells us we can’t park there, my husband continues to show him our parking sticker. But he tells us we still can’t park there and asks us to follow him. We do so thinking maybe they have created other wheelchair parking space as we haven’t been there since Covid hit. As we follow we notice he is leading us to the STANDARD parking space. At this point another man comes to our window. I then very politely ask him if there is a reason why I can’t park in the space that is made for wheelchair users? He tells me it’s reserved for emergencies. I point out that there is 4 if not more of those spaces. This is when he mentions it’s for pastors too. And again he tells us to please just park there as another wheelchair user is able to use it. I try hard to explain and demonstrate why I can’t use a standard sized parking and he completely ignores it and just says our other member can use it and so I should be able to use it too. As if all that I am saying doesn’t matter and I am just trying to be difficult. I didn’t choose to be paralysed. God allowed this to happen to me when I was 12 years old. God knows why He allowed this (John 9:1-3), and my faith in Him has never wavered. However when Christian’s act like this- when their actions contradict the principles of compassion, understanding, and equality that Jesus teaches - I think maybe one should consider other religions where God is God and humanity and equity are put first before (man) pastors. 😔All this happening in the middle of Disability Rights Awareness Month. Fellow Christians why are we allowing this? I urge us to reflect on these incidents and consider if they align with the teachings of Christianity. Let’s prioritize humanity and equity over hierarchical structures. As she was getting in the car I said nice permit babe and she said oh fuck off. She had a kid in the car. Yep. People still equating parenting with being disabled #NoPermitNoPark #DisabilityParking
