#DiscussionNotDNA I wanted to talk but it’s hard when your getting checked on so often. Basically I definitely agree about the family thing how it shouldn’t be compulsory for a diagnoses and some people have their differences in families / don’t have them 2/3

#DiscussionNotDNA I’m trying my best to listen from my hospital bed as that’s what lack of support did to me and here i am 6 months later. I was very lucky that my assessment only took 4/5 months. But leading up to that I had no idea I was autistic. 1/3

Post diagnosis I also got recommended to seek a sensory processing assessment, was told to speak to GP about it. But when I discussed it with GP I was told they couldn't do the referral 🤷‍♀️ Was all a bit of a saga 😅 #DiscussionNotDNA https://t.co/G2oyKm2apJ

I was first diagnosed at 18 after being under CAMHS for 4 years but then over the years my diagnosis has been doubted by multiple MH professionals. And I even had to be 're-diagnosed' because the CAMHS psychiatrist apparently didn't do it right. (1/2) #DiscussionNotDNA

#DiscussionNotDNA Even when I was diagnosed the school pushed for me not to apply for an EHCP because it was more trouble than its worth (not sure if that's true or not) because I was leaving school that year.

#DiscussionNotDNA The education system often doesn't support diagnosis of autistics unless they are a 'problem' because if they get diagnosed the school has to provide support which costs money.

I forget that non-autistic people have too much to risk to decide to speak out against #Spectrum10K As if autistic people don't have anything to risk when speaking out against it. So many autistic academics risking their reputation while non-autistics stand by and watch.
