"It took a pandemic, but Step 2 CS is canceled." #EndStep2CS
"Perhaps, in the background, the NBME was looking for a way to save face and cancel the increasingly unpopular Step 2 CS without admitting the test was garbage."

With the news that the @TheUSMLE #Step2CS has been permanently discontinued, we look back to our coverage of #endstep2cs on @InTrainingDoc, including the interview our former EIC @VikasBhattMD did with the @NBMEnow vice president in 2016. #medtwitter

Jokes aside, I'm so happy that the decision was finally made to #ENDSTEP2CS !

Medical students like @rohankhaz make policy come to life in the best way possible. Thankful for the @AMAmedstudents who fought tirelessly to bring light to this issue, and the @AmerMedicalAssn for supporting medical trainees!!#EndStep2CS #EndCOMLEXPE

Big news!!! 🎉🎉🎉 #EndStep2CS
The @AmerMedicalAssn House of Delegates just adopted a resolution authored by ND, SD, and IA calling for expedited action to retire the USMLE Step 2 CS and COMLEX Level 2 PE exams.

If anyone thought I’d let #endstep2CS go... Nope. Read my thoughts on @Medscape.

Hey, this seems like a GREAT time to talk about a plan to #endstep2CS (or change it entirely)

Thanks to @Medscape for the opportunity to write this piece — if I could added it, I’d cite @jbcarmody ‘s new article below!
Are you interested in learning about financial conflict of interest at the National Board of Medical Examiners?
If so, this article finally came out in print today... only 20 months after the original Twitter thread.

Niche #medtwitter content: my thoughts on Step 2 CS, written a few weeks back when @TheUSMLE canceled the exam for 2020-21 (when #endstep2cs was trending in our small corner of Twitter).
"#Step2CS has been treated like another drop in the bucket, but it is more like a lake in the ocean. It poses a huge financial burden that disproportionately affects lower-income students."

Back to Step 1: clearly it needs to be made pass/fail now.
Also, #EndStep2CS
How does NBOME respond the the massive influx of student concerns about COMLEX PE testing during COVID19? They release a "study" they helped publish which vouches for it's alleged utility. #MedTwitter #EndStep2CS
@liraphila @WalkerReddMD @JAMAInternalMed @flieonthewall Happy to. I guess it would be #dontbringbackcs instead of #endstep2cs...
USMLE Step 2 CS has been canceled for this year, although #medstudents have been studying for it day and night. It's time to #EndStep2CS permanently. #MedEd #MedStudentTwitter #KoraforAMATrustee
And *now* it’s official: Step 2 CS is suspended for 12-18 months.

Know what that means?
Yup, it’s time to break it down, WINNERS and LOSERS style...

This is fire. Last year we cried "Step 1 P/F," this year we cried "EndStep2CS." The USMLE patriarchy still reins (even if perilously) but my gen of physicians are powerful, fearless leaders ready for positive change for all. #medtwitter #cancelStep2CS #endStep2CS #USMLEreform
WINNERS: The medical students who started the #EndStep2CS movement.
Sure, CS is just suspended, not cancelled.
But after making a petition that gathered >20K signatures - and *still* getting stiff-armed by the NBME - tonight’s gotta feel good, right?

@DrFNA This always seemed to be a ridiculous thing to me. I felt it specifically targeted non-primary English speakers. Medical schools (US) should assure their graduates can perform a history & physical & develop an assessment & plan. If not, no MD (or DO). #MedEd #EndStep2CS
Honestly yes I’d be salty about wasting $1300 if it’s got canceled forever but it’s for the #greatergood to #EndStep2CS as we attempt to fix how Step exams are used to judge medical students.
UNDECIDED: The fate of CS.
Will the CS suspension become permanent, or at least lead to significant improvements in the test’s nature, cost, and format? Or is Step 2 CS just gonna hibernate for 12-18 months, then re-emerge?
(Ultimately, this one is up to us.)
Thank you to the 3,000+ supporters of the petition to #EndStep2CS! Med students absolutely played a role in the decision to suspend the exam for at least a year. @NBMEnow @AAMCtoday @TheUSMLE now must announce that #STEP2CS is not needed for licensure or #step3
