Surprenant ! Il est bien dommage que Jo. C et Sa. K n’aient manifestement pas pris le temps de lire ne fut-ce que le résumé de l’article qu’ils citent (FB « Double Extradition: What Edward Said Has to Tell Us Thirty Years on from “Orientalism” », dans la Review of Middle East Studies, 2009, ou, sur Hal SHS : Trente ans après ‘L’Orientalisme’ : Docteur Edouard, Monsieur Saïd et “ la double expulsion”). Ils y auraient découvert que mon point de vue était très substantiellement différent.
Revenant en Egypte 30 ans après l’exil imposé à son business man de père par le socialisme nassérien, Said, ayant pénétré sans autorisation dans son ancienne école, y fut éconduit par une dame (la directrice) portant Hijab. Dans ses mémoires (“A contre voie” Le serpent à plumes 2002) , il corrèle l’auteur de cette «seconde expulsion » à l’existence d’une nouvelle «occupation », musulmane cette fois, qu’il compare, excusez du peu, à celle des Britanniques qui a précédé. Sur le veston lumineux du grand Saïd, il y a donc bel et bien une tache sombre : il a refusé aux Musulmans d’Egypte, soit à la majorité de la population du pays de son enfance, d’exister dans cette configuration de la domination occidentale qu’il a si parfaitement réussi à déconstruire… pour lui-même et tous les autres. En tant qu’élite (palestinienne ou arabe) dominée, Saïd a produit en effet le meilleur des dispositifs analytiques de la domination politique. En tant qu’élite dominante, l’auteur de « Out of place» n’a pas toujours écrit ou milité « à contre voie » : face à une génération islamiste qui remettait en cause l’hégémonie de la famille politique à laquelle il s’identifiait le plus intuitivement, il est demeuré dans le rang, ou dans l'ornière, de l’immense majorité des intellectuels de son époque. Cette erreur d’aiguillage, essentielle, est en effet celle qu’ont commise bon nombre de ces “arabes laïcs” auxquels l’Europe persiste jusqu’à ce jour à limiter sa communication.
