The arrest of several protesters during the demonstrations sparked outrage among civil society groups and international human rights organisations, who have called for their immediate release. A court document obtained by SaharaReporters on Sunday reveals that the charges were filed against 10 protesters listed as Defendants. I’m very happy and excited that we were able to carry out our rights peacefully and successfully. People who think we support the peaceful demonstration because of any ulterior motive should know that the only motive is to have Nigeria🇳🇬 alleviated from the abject poverty this government deliberately puts us through. With a word click, “fuel subsidy is gone”, President Tinubu put us in a difficult position where most people go to bed empty stomach. The only way out of this quagmire is for the president to right click the “fuel subsidy is back” button. To the states that erupted into chaos like Kaduna and Kano, I hope and pray everything comes back under control ASAP. But then, only justice could ensure peace🕊️. Anything short of bringing down the cost of fuel, food, and dealing with insecurity decisively would only escalate the chaos. President was given a month to respond to the yearnings of poor Nigerians but he fell deaf ears. He should bear the consequences of whatever happens afterwards. Again, I call on security agencies to carry out their work diligently. They shouldn’t harass people who protest peacefully and they shouldn’t let violent protesters go Scot—Free. Allah sees our hearts. We want a better Nigeria and we would keep trying anything that may lead to a better Nigeria🇳🇬. This is a trying moment but we would scale through InshaAllah.
