We crested the top of Monte La Difensa yesterday to lay the plaque in commemoration of the #FSSF, where 34 Canadian and American soldiers lost their lives. It was a somber moment. This will be the 2nd plaque to be placed here. The 1st was to commemorate the location of where the battle took place, and the one we lay yesterday was to honour the temporary graveyards where the FSSF were buried. It is still unknown, but likely that there are more bodies on this mountain, & more than likely German. We walk, with respect, to honour all men lost on #MonteLaDifensa Canadian, American and German alike. It will be exciting to have everyone with us in the coming days to finish the journey we all started in Montana. You will see John Hart & @luciano_bucci_ throughout this trip and the importance of these two men is immeasurable. Both experts on the FSSF in their own rights. John, whose father fought in the FSSF, an expert historian on the matter, and Luciano Bucci, a local who is not only an expert on the matter he also started and runs a local museum called The War museum Winter Line Venafro, with artifacts he’s been digging up since he was 17. With both these men, they keep the memory of the FSSF alive for generations to come.
