I usually share the good stuff, but I also think it’s important to share the “real” stuff.
My #FailureResume grew yesterday; this one stings. I applied to be a “Teacher Amb” to the US Dept. of Ed. Reflecting, it’s hard to fight the “Am I not doing enough (as a teacher)?” vibes.
Have you created a Failure Resume? Of goals you could not achieve, jobs that passed you by, projects you botched up.
Mine was 6 times longer than my normal CV.
See the parts you may have missed on while striving towards your goals.

You've heard of a resume, of course. But have you ever heard of a failure resume? @tseelig, a professor at @Stanford, coined the term that's a perfect method for addressing our regrets. Try it out, and let me know what you learned.

My latest failure. Regardless of lack of funding we will proceed to leverage our extensive resources and experience to deep phenotype PH-HFpEF. My drive to obtain @NIHFunding remains strong. #failureresume #MedTwitter #NIH @nih_nhlbi
Let’s take a second and normalize failure.
What if we didn’t have winners and losers...
But winners and learners? @AdamMGrant #FailureResume #JUICE
I could have been a cashier, a tour guide and a web developer. Thing is, I wouldn’t have been happy doing any of those things.
Sometimes, when one door closes, another one opens. Don’t worry. Don’t look back. Just go forward.

Sometimes, the road not taken is not taken for a reason. You might not realize it at first, but just look back at where you’ve been and where you are.
Getting told "no" might motivate you to do better, and may alter your path in ways you can't even imagine. #failureresume
My first year as a teacher was almost an unqualified flop. I almost quit. Rather, I found my stride and ended up getting the chance to teach epic students with amazing colleagues and have loved my career. This reminds me of @KatieNovakUDL’s #failureresume https://t.co/fFvKKN5UTI
And now for my 96% #FailureResume. Spoiler: the academic job market is rough :(
4 years of applying
47 applications (28 of which declined to even send rejections)
3 Skype interviews
3 campus visits
2 offers
1 tough decision
1 amazing job

@profallentweets So curious how transparent folks would really be in creating and sharing a #failureresume with students. Quite at odds with the culture I'm familiar with, both as student and now as teacher.
I'm going to do it this semester. Thank you for the push!
Adding to this year's #failureresume are several thwarted #highered award nominations. Despite not securing prizes for my most deserving colleagues with whom it is a pleasure to work, I deepened my understanding and appreciation of their work.
Inspired by @colleencaleshu - I won an award for my first research study. My second got rejected by not 1, not 2, but 3 journals. God as my witness, I will publish again (eventually and not without many pep talks). #gcchat #FailureResume
Stuff I’ve been thinking about: when is it okay to discuss our failures? I think we tend to share once we’re on the other side... but how does this message change and help others when we share before the point of safety/success? #failbetter #failureresume
If I get two rejections in response to the same job application does that count as an offer? Do they negate one another? #failureresume

This year, instead of New Year's Resolutions, I'm writing a failure resume. There's a lot to be learned from our mistakes and challenges. #Stoic #Stoicism #failureresume https://t.co/k8X2SiIoLM
