I met with Fabio, archivist with Rio’s Cinemateca do MAM. He told me some pretty interesting revelations about the lost print and what RKO employees in the ‘40s did with unwanted material.

We are here at the Heloisa Alberto Cultural Center in Itaborai outside of Rio. Her father, Alberto, was on the RKO Latin America corporate board and the lost print may be here in the family archive.

Obviously not thrilled about this but here’s what I can tell you: the nitrate based films that went up in flames were from a collection dating 1920-1940.
The Magnificent Ambersons was made in ‘42. The hunt continues.

Brazilian Cinemateque is on fire!
A shed located in São Paulo that has around 200 films is burning. The site has been in existence since 2011, and has already suffered from flooding in 2020. Cinematheque workers have been denouncing the government's abandonment of the institution
