I proposed the #Right_to_Food law in February of this year, in parallel with the completion of the Lebanese #Food_System_Transformation Pathway document and its submission to the United Nations @FoodSystems This was done to express Lebanon's commitment to working in accordance with this global pathway to ensure food and nutritional security for all in a #sustainable manner. What is the importance of passing the #Right_to_Food law? Passing a "right to food" law holds great importance for several reasons, including: 1- Ensuring #Food_Security: It helps ensure that all members of society have access to sufficient and nutritious food, reducing rates of hunger and malnutrition. 2- #Social_Justice: It promotes #equality and social justice by guaranteeing everyone's right to access food, regardless of their economic or social backgrounds. 3- Enhancing #Public_Health: Healthy food is the foundation of good health. The law contributes to improving public health and reducing healthcare costs associated with diseases linked to poor nutrition. 4- Supporting #Sustainable_Development: The right to food is part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly #Goal2, which aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. It also ensures inter-sectoral collaboration and inter-linkages 5- Promoting #Social_Stability: Improving access to food reduces social unrest caused by hunger and poverty, enhancing political and social stability. 6- Boosting #Local_Production: This law can stimulate support for local agriculture and small producers, strengthening the local economy and reducing dependence on imports. 7- Adhering to #International_Standards: Passing the law reflects the country's commitment to international human rights standards, enhancing its image on the global stage. In summary, the "right to food" law is not only a humanitarian issue and human right issue but also a #strategic step towards achieving sustainable development and social and economic stability. @SDG2030 @FoodSystems @WFPLebanon @FAO

UN Women Lebanon is integrating the #Food_System_Transformation process into their projects: Recently, UN Women Lebanon developed a project aiming at #empowering refugees, internally displaced #women in conflict areas, and those affected by war, giving them #agency over their food and nutrition security to enhance their #resilience, self-reliance and leadership. This involves creating a #model for food system transformation capable of ensuring a healthy diet for all at all times. The project will be implemented by Amel Association and « Initiate » Organization in collaboration with the « Agriculture movement », the Tyr union of municipalities, and the Disaster Risk Reduction Unit (DRR), the project focuses on empowering women through capacity-building programs in ecological agriculture, hot meal preparation, and food processing. Women will grow their own nutritious food, engage in local markets, and access opportunities for cash-for-work initiatives and income generation. Additionally, the project provides training and raises community awareness on gender-based violence (#GBV), while promoting mental well-being through stable livelihoods and community cohesion. Furthermore, it advocates for ecological practices that conserve water, promote #biodiversity, and mitigate #climate_change effects. Over Six weeks, I held, as National #Convener for #Food_System_Transformation, in collaboration with our UN partners, many National dialogue sessions with more than #thirty_stakeholders, and more than #fifty_participants from ministries, Food Security Sector, NGO’s and INGO’s, private sector, academia, partners in UN agencies, farmers, in addition to few bilateral interdisciplinary meetings, in order to: 1- identify challenges, barriers that hinder a transformative process towards a #sustainable_resilient_equitable food system 2- document any progress achieved since 2021 3- Develop an interdisciplinary, inter-sectoral, multi-stakeholder, well governed National Pathway This process started in the world after the UN Summit in 2021, Lebanon joined recently, Better late than never @Imran_Riza @UNESCWA @FAO @WFPLebanon @MoaLebanon @FoodSystems @IPUparliament @AbdallahAlward1
