In June 2024, Canada took a major step by designating the IRGC as a terrorist entity, a victory achieved through years of advocacy by the Iranian-Canadian community and human rights activists. This designation was meant to target regime affiliates while ensuring protection for families of forced conscripts who had no choice but to serve under duress.
Politicians assured us this policy would focus on the regime and its enablers, not the innocent individuals coerced into conscription. Yet, those promises have been broken. Instead of distinguishing victims from perpetrators, the blanket policy has unfairly punished innocent families, leaving them in limbo and suffering the consequences of an oppressive regime they sought to escape.

Mr. @PierrePoilievre tactfully addressed the critical issue of deporting IRGC affiliates from Canadian soil (5:48”–6:48”), while the gov remains preoccupied with unfairly targeting innocent #FormerIRGCConscripts’ families by misclassifying them as members. Meanwhile, the @IRB_Canada declined to issue a deportation order behind closed doors, despite @CBSA accusing certain individuals of the IR affiliation (see @StewGlobal’s January 15, 2025 article on @globalnews ). How can the @liberal_party still claim they’ve spent significant time addressing this issue? Their inaction clearly indicates they’ve done nothing meaningful.

@JonathanWNV Jonathan, #FormerIRGCconscripts are Iranian-Canadians as well. Conscripts should not be considered members of the organization where they did the mandatory service. These are innocent people who have fled the oppression in Iran.

I used to be a proud Canadian and a model citizen for over 20 years, giving back to a country I thought gave equality and security to all its citizens. So i wholeheartedly embraced Canada as my new home, taking part in creating a better healthcare for Canadians. 1/7
@mahmoud_azimaee I am so sorry to read this Mahmoud. Unfortunately, #FormerIRGCconscripts have been subjected to this behaviour since the #Trump2019 executive decision. @JustinTrudeau, @melaniejoly, @SecBlinken, @SecMayorkas and @CBPChrisMagnus are aware of this & so far there is no resolution.
