After having traveled to many countries on our #GiantStepTour, we felt it particularly appropriate to make a separate trip to Canada. I presented Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau with a replica of the silicon disc left on the moon during #Apollo11’s visit.
The longest leg of our trip may have ended November 5 1969, but the #GiantstepTour would continue to Canada—making stops in Ottawa and Montreal. Due to scheduling, we couldn’t make this special trip until December 2 & 3. Stay tuned for that and more #WorldInMyWindow travels…
After revisiting memories of our stay in Tokyo for the #GiantstepTour, I was reminded of this koi fish painting I did years ago. Beautiful fish!
I would like to thank the various State Department and NASA people who kept us on track on the world tour. The plane became a second home; sight of some much-needed down time, inside jokes, and general camaraderie. Only possible by being away from the public eye. #GiantstepTour
Looking back, I think #GiantstepTour was successful. I continue to be amazed by the viewpoint that seemed to be unanimous: We Did It!

You can find wild crazy night life or the intense silence of a placid walled Buddhist garden. The people are quiet but friendly and very polite. If not for looking forward to going home, I would have stayed longer. I loved Tokyo. #GiantstepTour

I remember our motorcade which featured extremely well-disciplined crowds. We made our arrival speeches in a great square, while overhead flew the flags—huge—of the US and South Korea, suspended magnificently on balloons. #GiantstepTour #Apollo50

As we celebrate #Apollo50 & #GiantstepTour, it reminds me of how I celebrated my 50th birthday. Call me crazy but I ran 50 miles on that one day, mostly along the C&O canal. At the finish line with Pat and my new Halloween 50/50 T-shirt she thoughtfully designed for the occasion.

In Dacca, we received a most enthusiastic welcome, with very little crowd control. Our car started steaming shortly after we left the airport, but kept running all the way to the hotel. Our wives were not so lucky. #GiantstepTour #Apollo50

We spent the day in crowded motorcades, press conferences, & a visit to see the Crown Jewels. From my journal: “I danced with almost everyone, Royal or not. Popped the button off my tux in the process.” #GiantstepTour

Our first stop in Africa. President Mobutu was our host, and our hostess seemed to be Mimi, his pet leopard. We viewed many dances, the most impressive being by The Lion Hunter, a troupe from the wilderness 1,000 miles from Kinshasa. #GiantstepTour
