The shifts from 2014->2018 are exaggerated due to the DFL not contesting #HD23B that year, but when put in context with 2016, you can see that the DFL still made some solid gains in 2018.

This starts my #HD16B thread. Over the weekend, the @MinnesotaDFL endorsed @kimmelforhouse. She will certainly have an uphill climb. This district is just NW of #HD23B which recently had a special election. Trump carried this #MNLeg district 64.49%-26.62%.

Turnout in Minnesota today was actually higher than other special elections we have seen across the country. (Minnesota regularly has higher turnout than the rest of the nation) Turnout: #SD54- 30.04% #HD23B- 29.33% #MNPol #MNLeg

In both, results between 2012 & 2016: —Ds win #SD54 by 4%: swing of 5% toward Ds compared to 2016, but swing of 4% toward Rs compared to 2012. —Rs win #HD23B by 19%: swing of 10% toward Ds compared to 2016, but swing of 15% toward Rs compared to 2012. [using @DKElections #s].
