Today I'm trying to clarify this issue for the educated people as well as dishonest 'journos'. Just like Muslim population has grown in India, Hindu population has grown in Pakistan and Bangladesh too.
1. Hindu population in Pakistan has grown nearly 8 times since 1951. It was just over 5.3 lakh in 1951, when dust had settled after partition 1947 & post population exchange. Today it is close to 50 lakh. [In comparison Muslim population in India increased 4.9 times]. Of course, no decrease in population anywhere.
2. In percent terms too, it has grown, check Census data. The falsehoods that are spread by comparing undivided Pakistan's population including Bangladesh and then comparing it with today's Pakistan, and then using it to claim that while Hindus suffer there, Muslims here have grown, is a very clever and dirty strategy.
3. Why should this Pakistan angle be brought here and mischievously false facts are presented. The truth and statistics must be known because you selectively misuse and use data to show something else. Newspapers keep harping on this as well without real data.
4. Even in Bangladesh, Hindu population was around 95 lakh in 1970s. Lakhs of Hindus came to India, a reason for decline after 1971, due to common border, but Hindu population has GROWN to 1.3 crore now and increasing.
5. Undivided Punjab was Muslim majority region--53%. But after 1947, just 1% Muslims remained in Indian Punjab. So, please don't use data in a manner that flummoxes people and leads to deep insecurities and causes religious divide apart from making people feel that the other group is targeting them.
6. This is propaganda of the level of fascism. Even supposedly liberal and secular journalists like @SardesaiRajdeep peddle it, this fake comparison and false equivalence, to create a wrong impression in minds. It is so dangerous that it creates hate, real hatred among communities. But this is spoken as if it is truth!
7. Now, will that journo ask, 'what happened that Muslims almost became invisible here in Indian Punjab?'. How the numbers fell so much. No one asks this.
8. Bhai, didn't you get any education? In between, 1947 happened, they went and people from other side came.
9. On our Western side, population exchange was near total. On the East, it was not population exchange but people from Bangladesh came here after 1971.
10. If comparison has to take place, compare from 1951 census to 2001 or 2011 that how much minorities have grown. In all 3 countries, the religious minorities have grown.
Advice to journalists and others:
1. Read books, learn
2. See and analyse data yourself
3. At least, Google and do a bit of research, well
4. Are you conditioned and want to believe untruth
5. Cunning people have communal agenda and use it to demonize Muslims in own country as well and put minority in guilt here for something outside. Stay away from them. Truth must prevail.
If nothing, at least, check wikipedia, and then properly read a few history books on partition, demography and Punjab as well as Bengal, history.
The cunning who are not just educated but dishonest and deliberately peddle false propaganda, misusing their authority as Channel anchors or journalists must be shamed and indicted. They should not play dangerous games.
Everyone uses data as per their 'need' and conceal the rest. Ordinary people don't read all census reports. The fact is that Muslim population was 3.5 crore in India in 1951 and it went up to 17.22 crore.
[The 'false narrative' is created with the aim to put pressure of settling scores with Muslims here for the alleged deeds outside though the claims are false. Whoever commits atrocities, must be held guilty, and don't divert issue or blame other, by misusing your power, just that you own media and you are in majority in media and you want to believe it, even if it is lie]
