CAUGHT ON CAMERA: A German man threatened to kill a Muslim woman wearing a hijab and Palestinian keffiyeh in the heart of Berlin. The woman filmed the shocking Islamophobic assault in a metro station, which happened after she had left a pro-Palestine demonstration earlier this month. Despite knowing his face was on camera, the man felt so emboldened to continue his racist assault that he crossed over to the woman's platform and chased her. He then called to her friend on the other side to "come over here now" and gestured that he would kill them both. The woman called the police, but the man had boarded a train before they got there. In 2023, Islamophobic crimes in Germany more than doubled to 1,424 compared to 610 the previous year, according to police figures, which are likely an extreme understatement. In the first month of this year alone, the police reported 137 anti-Muslim hate crimes.

I just spent a wonderful afternoon in the company of the Iranian Liberty Association (ILA) where I had the privilege of addressing the assembled crowd and voicing my support for Iranian people. As well as a joint celebration of Persian New Year (NoRuz), Easter, Passover and Eid, we commemorated the lives of many young people murdered by the heinous IRGC regime. Whilst I was there, a state of high alert has been announced in Israel with an imminent threat of attack from Iran. This regime and its proxies have caused so much death and misery in the Middle East and beyond, thinking of all those affected right now and grateful to all the people who risk their lives in pursuit of freedom, democracy and human rights. We all owe them a debt.
