Attending the Europe Humanitarian Forum has been an important opportunity to engage with key actors shaping the future of humanitarian response. Yet, as a national NGO working on the frontlines of crises, it’s clear that the current humanitarian architecture remains heavily skewed toward large UN, INGOs with limited meaningful inclusion of community-based organizations (CBOs), Local/NNGOs. This imbalance isn't just about visibility or representation rather it reflects deeper structural issues. Many systems and funding mechanisms are rigid, complex, and designed in ways that inherently transfer risk down the chain rather than share it. Local actors are often expected to deliver under the same compliance and operational standards as INGOs, but without the same level of support, resources, or access to flexible funding. There’s an urgent need to rethink this architecture. We must move toward a model that genuinely values and invests in local capacity and promotes localization through direct funding, equitable partnerships, and co-design of systems that recognize local knowledge, leadership, transparency and accountability structures. Localization cannot succeed if it continues to operate within a global framework that doesn’t structurally allow it to thrive. A more balanced, capacity and risk-sharing humanitarian system is not only fairer but it is also more effective, sustainable, and grounded in the realities of the communities we all aim to serve. #Localization #EqualPartnership #EHF
