Lots of people seem to be declaring 'victory' on #digitalID today. I don't know why. Labour's #IDscheme is FAR from dead; Blair 'U-turned' from mandatory "entitlement cards" in 2002 and we still got #IDcards and a National Identity Register in 2006...

...and, as of last month, in a 'reverse take-over' of @DCMS's "#Digital #identity & attributes #TrustFramework", there are now @ukhomeoffice-administered online #RightToWork and #RightToRent checks for ALL British and Irish citizens as well: https://t.co/q3nBHrYJCr

Particularly apt with regard to domestic #VaccinePassports! Given all the #freedoms we've had to sacrifice this past year, why on earth would anyone submit to a #digital #IDscheme linked to their #MedicalRecord, when by June we'll have achieved #HerdImmunity?

In practice anything *more* than a 'piece of paper' would involve erecting some sort of #IDscheme, which we'd be left with for years. Possibly permanently. And what would ANY such 'passport' assure? In reality, only that someone had been given a jab (or two) of one of several...

...an #IDscheme - especially one linked to an ephemeral clinical state that'll do little but enforce #Discrimination, engage #PerverseIncentives, and be available for all sorts of other #DatabaseState horrors as well. ALWAYS read the fine print; it's where you get screwed.

Erm, we stated the problem & began to tackle it ('locally', but in touch with others) in 2004. @NO2ID may be best recognised for its work to end the @ukhomeoffice #IDscheme, but our strapline from the start was (also) #StopTheDatabaseState! And now it's breaking out all over...

Not quite, @DMossEsq. Yes the @ukhomeoffice #IDscheme "didn't work", but it was ultimately stopped because of sustained, broad-based public opposition based in a growing understanding that "#IDcards" wouldn't do what they were claimed to do & of the undesirable things they would.

Nothing could stop a scheme that worked from being deployed. You would expect a think tank worthy of the name to know that and not to talk cockpoppy, @David_Goodhart @EinsteinsAttic #7

I don't know about you, but I do not trust this idea of an ID scheme AT ALL. The @ukhomeoffice does not have the experience and ressources for such a wide scale scheme to ever be successful https://t.co/UoDcre8tBW #EUcitizens #IDscheme #HostileEnvironment #settledstatus
