Our study focused on #intrahost single nucleotide variants (#iSNVs, pronounced ‘eye-snivs’, e.g. C>T) of the cancer-causing human papillomavirus #HPV. You can think of iSNVs as polymorphisms in the population of viruses infecting a single individual. 2/8

"...the study points out the convergent #intrahost #evolution of specific #mutations in #SARSCoV2, as they emerged independently in previously described VOCs, VOIs and in the strain we studied." Intra-host evolution of mutations + unmitigated transmission = unmitigated disaster

😱CONVERGENT WHAT NOW?! "The high frequency of these non-synonymous mutations is consistent with multiple events of convergent evolution... specific mutations in the SARS-CoV-2 genome may represent positions with a fitness advantage." https://t.co/AkimzK5fJl

Convincing evidence of within-host #intrahost recombination of #SARSCoV2 during an Alpha/Epsilon (~75%/25%) super-infection — two variants that are diverged enough to allow such detection. Evidence from deep sequencing, cloning, and contact tracing. No onward transmission.👇🏼

#Intrahost genetic diversity is thought to facilitate #arbovirus adaptation to changing environments and hosts, and it might also be linked to viral #pathogenesis. Read more at https://t.co/KQo5c6QvNr
