What happened at Baniachong police station in Habiganj, Bangladesh, on August 5, 2024, is beyond shocking, it's worse than anything from the dark ages.
A deadly mob, made up of supporters from @BJI_Official, @info_shibir, @bdbnp78 and local drug dealers, surrounded the station. Their demand was horrifying: they wouldn't let anyone leave unless one police officer was handed over to be killed.
At that time, 60–65 police officers were trapped inside. The army arrived for a rescue, but instead of confronting the mob, they negotiated for hours. Finally, they gave in and handed over Sub-Inspector Santosh Chowdhury. Why him? Because he had stood firmly against drugs and terrorism in Habiganj.
Then came the unthinkable: right inside the station, in full view, the mob beat Santosh to death.
An eyewitness later told the BBC, "At first, they wanted to kill all the police, but the army didn't allow that." So instead, they sacrificed one man. A literal trade-off of life.
How can something this cruel, this lawless, happen in 2024?
The army, which so often shows force in places like Gopalganj, stood by helplessly in Baniachong, Habiganj. They couldn't carry out a proper rescue. They fired a few blank rounds then watched as a man was lynched before their eyes.
This army has no pride, no ethics and no respect for either the law or the nation. They didn't just fail, they surrendered their moral authority.
