Today in 1944, the Supreme Court upheld the detainment of Japanese-Americans in the “Korematsu” case. The history is reviewed at the Arizona State Capitol. I believe it was wrong. #Korematsu

On Dec. 18, 1944, the #Korematsu decision legitimized #japaneseinternment across the U.S., including at home at the Puyallup Fairgrounds.
To this day, SCOTUS has not overturned this decision. Now more than ever, we must remember to prioritize and protect the freedoms of all.
Today, CAPAC marks 80 years since the Korematsu vs. U.S. decision, which upheld the unjust incarceration of 120,000+ Japanese Americans.
We reaffirm our commitment to advocating for civil rights & equality for all.

Reminder: #Korematsu was based on misrepresentation as well.
In this case, the parties stipulated to standing.
Is that akin to trying to stipulate to subject matter jxdn?
And would a hard line here eviscerate the use of testers in future civil rights cases? #appellatetwitter
@KatyaSedgwick @DrIbram Amazingly, it was the Left's hero FDR's Supreme Court justices who ruled it legal to imprison a native-born American, without charge, trial, or recourse, based on where his ancestors were born.

#FredKorematsu was arrested #OnThisDay in 1942 for evading #FDR's imprisonment of #JapaneseAmericans; the #SupremeCourt's never overturned its 1944 #Korematsu ruling effectively declaring that #AAPI citizens aren't entitled to the rights of US citizenship:

In the 1980s, a legal team filed a petition to overturn #Korematsu’s conviction on the grounds that the Supreme Court had made its decision based on false information. It was officially vacated in 1983.

“The whole thing [narrative of Japanese Americans being spies] was entirely made up and the government knew it at the time.”

It's the anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
Just two months after the attack, a US policy steeped in racism, condemning Asian Americans to "relocation camps," would lead to one of the worst #SCOTUS decisions in our nation's history. #Korematsu
