All OTPs do is confirm possession of a device - or actually a SIM with a certain mobile number.
This is exactly what is done with device-binding, something every UPI app does when you send that encrypted SMS the first time around. If it's good enough for payment transactions, the same process should be fine for everything else. We could eliminate OTPs that give us the false sense of security by just binding apps to devices. The other approach is to allow users to use a 2FA app like Google Authenticator.
It's time we make the switch to superior solutions that make security convenient!
We are in a severe grip of “OTPs”
From all online banking to accessing Govt services, from E-commerce to travel services, it takes 2-5 OTPs to get things done.
Especially Govt services are horrible…one wastes hours to get simple shit done.
Despite OTPs, India has so many frauds all across.
