#Modison: The tiny component sitting inside India’s electrification story
Most people have never heard of Modison. But its products sit inside the equipment that controls some of the most critical electricity infrastructure.
Modison manufactures electrical contacts and contact materials used in circuit breakers, contactors and switchgear across low, medium, high and extra-high voltage applications. Its portfolio includes silver-alloy contacts, copper-tungsten contacts, crowns, brazing assemblies, bimetal rivets, cladded contacts and specialised alloys. In simple words, Modison makes the tiny metal parts that connect and disconnect electricity safely.
And this is where the story gets interesting.
In high-voltage contacts, Modison estimates it has ~80–82% market share in India and says it is the only Indian manufacturer of specialised “crowns”. These components are designed into breakers supplied to customers such as GE, ABB, Siemens, BHEL and BEL. Replacing a qualified contact supplier is not like changing a normal vendor — the component has to be tested and qualified for the specific breaker design, creating years of switching friction.
The ISRO example shows how difficult this capability can be to replicate. ISRO had reportedly tried 5–6 suppliers over 5–6 years for a Russian-standard brazing alloy foil. Modison developed the import substitute in just 8–10 months and became the qualified domestic supplier. That is much more interesting than simply saying “Modison has good technology.”
There is another important advantage: Modison is vertically integrated. It can refine silver, manufacture contact materials and then manufacture the finished contacts itself. It also has an in-house tool room, R&D capability and testing infrastructure. Around 260 new customer-specific products were developed in FY26 — these are not simple catalogue products, but parts designed around customer specifications.
Now comes the growth opportunity.
India is entering a long power-infrastructure cycle. More renewable generation means more transmission infrastructure. More factories, metros, EV infrastructure and data centres mean more switchgear. Management specifically highlighted data centres and AI as a demand driver because more data-centre power infrastructure requires more switchgear and therefore more electrical contacts.
The pipeline is broader than just India. Modison wants exports to cross ₹100 crore in FY27 and has identified 20–25 large international prospects. It is also working on high-voltage products, silver-thrifting solutions, specialised alloys and tungsten recovery. The company has set revenue targets of ₹880 crore for FY27 and ₹1,365 crore by FY30.
But investors need to understand one very important catch.
Modison is not yet a pure high-margin specialty company.
Around 80% of sales come from low/medium-voltage products, where management estimates only ~30–35% Indian market share and where silver accounts for 75–80% of raw-material cost. FY26 revenue jumped 45% to ₹716 crore and EBITDA rose 143% to ₹115 crore, but a large part of the reported growth was helped by the huge increase in silver prices.
This is why I would not simply extrapolate FY26 margins.
The real test for Modison is whether it can gradually shift the mix from “silver conversion” to “mission-critical engineering.”
If high-voltage contacts, crowns, specialised alloys, exports, data-centre demand and grid infrastructure become a much larger part of the business, the quality of earnings could improve materially.
If not, Modison could remain a cyclical silver-processing business with a very attractive niche attached to it.
That is the real investment question.
The moat is real. The opportunity is real. But the next few years will tell us whether Modison can turn a small high-voltage toll bridge into the main highway.

@UnivestIN your report dated 17 Aug used ₹291 CMP when #MODISON was already near ₹356 and your 2030 bull case is ₹384. which as per me will hit tomorrow on 19th aug 2026.
My system found it around ₹280.
For me, ₹380 is not a target. It’s confirmation.
2 weeks above ₹380 = base case ₹500.
That’s the difference between analysing a move and building a system that sees it early. 🙂
You are analysing why it moved.
My engine was tracking why it could move before it moved.
Anyone can write a report after attention arrives.
Building an engine that identifies such changes before consensus notices them is a completely different game.
You may be #1 as per your claim.
But those who understand the difference between a content business and a real research edge won’t need this explained twice.
Analysts are scalable with hiring.
A genuine system moat is not.
the best decision you took is to follow good stock analysts..... :)

The biggest takeaway isn't the 194% PAT growth—it's #Modison's niche monopoly-like positioning in silver electrical contacts. Strong moat + power capex tailwinds + reasonable valuation are what make it interesting. #fiibuying

🚨 Modison Ltd: An overlooked niche manufacturing story? ⚡️
While the market chases switchgear manufacturers, few are tracking the company that manufactures one of the most critical components inside every switchgear.
Modison Ltd manufactures Silver Electrical Contact Materials & Finished Contacts used across Low, Medium, High & Extra High Voltage (LV/MV/HV/EHV) switchgear with decades of technical expertise and a long-standing collaboration with Germany's DODUCO.
FY26 Performance
✅ Revenue: ₹710 Cr (+45% YoY)
✅ PAT: ₹72.5 Cr (+194% YoY)
✅ Operating Profit: ₹118 Cr (vs ₹45 Cr)
✅ OPM expanded from 9% to 17%
✅ ROE: 32%
✅ ROCE: 31%
✅ EPS jumped from ₹7.61 to ₹22.35
✅ Total Dividend: ₹5.50/share (₹2.50 Interim + ₹3.00 Final)
Q4 FY26 was exceptional
• Revenue: ₹287 Cr vs ₹130 Cr (+121% YoY)
• PAT: ₹36 Cr vs ₹10 Cr (+260% YoY)
• OPM touched 25%, indicating strong operating leverage.
Shareholding getting stronger
📈 Promoter holding increased 52.11% → 52.23%
📈 FII holding almost doubled 0.48% → 0.92%
📉 Public holding declined to 46.85%
Rising promoter and FII ownership is generally viewed as a positive signal, although it should not be considered a guarantee of future performance.
Silver prices – Risk or Opportunity?
Many investors assume higher silver prices hurt profitability.
However, Modison is primarily a value-added engineering manufacturer, not a commodity trader. Silver forms a major part of the selling price, and increases in silver prices can raise reported revenue if demand remains healthy, while margins depend on value addition, manufacturing efficiency and product mix rather than the metal price alone. Sustained high silver prices therefore do not automatically translate into lower profitability.
Why FY27 could be interesting (illustrative scenario, not company guidance)
If:
• Silver prices remain firm,
• Demand from power, railways, renewable energy and industrial electrification continues,
• Margins stay near current levels,
then revenue could potentially move towards ₹900–1,000 Cr, with PAT in the ₹90–110 Cr range. This is an analytical scenario, not a forecast.
At around 12x earnings, Modison trades below many quality electrical manufacturing businesses that command materially higher earnings multiples due to their growth and return ratios. If execution remains strong, sustained ROE/ROCE and institutional participation improve, the market could assign a higher valuation over time. That said, any re-rating is uncertain and depends on future performance and market conditions.
Key reasons to track
✔ High ROE & ROCE
✔ Improving margins
✔ Consistent dividend payout
✔ Increasing promoter & FII holding
✔ Niche product with high entry barriers
✔ Beneficiary of India's power infrastructure, transmission, renewables, railways and data centre capex.

This list from Modison Limited tells you where the company sits in the electrical equipment value chain.
What Modison actually makes
Most people think of breakers, switchgear, transformers, and GIS systems. Modison makes the critical contact materials inside them.
Think of it like this:
ABB, Siemens, Schneider, Hitachi Energy, CG Power make the equipment.
Modison supplies the specialized silver, copper-tungsten, and contact materials that allow current to be switched safely.
Interesting segments
1. High Voltage (Most important)
Copper Tungsten plugs & tulips
Used in GIS switchgear and SF6 breakers.
Voltage range 77kV to 800kV.
These are highly engineered products with fewer qualified suppliers.
India is investing heavily in:
Transmission expansion
Renewable evacuation
Grid modernization
GIS substations
This segment benefits directly.
2. Silver Contact Materials
Products like:
Silver Cadmium Oxide
Silver Tin Oxide
Silver Nickel
These are used in:
Switches
Relays
Contactors
MCBs
Industrial protection systems
These are recurring-consumption products.
3. Silver Powder for Solar PV Cells
This caught my eye.
Silver paste/powder is used in solar cell manufacturing.
If Modison increases exposure here, it could participate in India's solar manufacturing expansion.
Defense angle
The mention of:
Tungsten heavy alloys
Beryllium copper
suggests some niche defense and aerospace applications.
Usually these aren't huge revenue contributors initially, but margins can be attractive.
What I like
✅ Critical component supplier, not commodity metal trader.
✅ Exposure to transmission and grid capex.
✅ High entry barriers in electrical contacts.
✅ Long qualification cycles protect incumbents.
✅ Potential beneficiaries of power sector investment.
What I don't like
❌ Silver is a major raw material.
❌ Working capital can be high.
❌ Revenue growth often depends on capex cycles.
❌ Not a pure-play defense or solar story despite market narratives.
