Talking to local media, families confirm many are stranded outdoors with no food, water or shelter. This comes as the UNHCR estimates 3.4 million people have been displaced in #Somalia including this impacted by seasonal changes over the past year.
The fighting in #Gedo is also creating a refugee crisis with dozens of people already leaving their homes in #BeledXaawo & #Doolow.

#UPDATE: Reports from #Mahaas district in #Somalia's central #Hiiraan region indicate that heavy fighting erupted on Sunday after #AlShabaab militants launched a major assault on the town and its outskirts. The attack reportedly came from multiple directions, with some sources suggesting the militants managed to breach parts of the town. Local defence forces had reportedly moved toward the Wabho area, north of Mahaas, when the attack began.
Al-Shabaab has since claimed control of the town following the assault. The fighting triggered panic among residents, forcing some civilians to flee. Tensions remain high, with the situation described as volatile amid growing fears of further escalation.
Mahaas had remained free from Al-Shabaab control for the past 13 years, making this latest development a serious blow to regional stability.
