British academic #MatthewGoodwin is absolutely correct. This statement also completely undermines the promise made by the Labour party to construct 1.5 million homes as a solution to the housing crisis. Based on Goodwin's prediction, it is clear that net migration will surpass the available supply, leading to a failure in meeting the demand. This aligns with my longstanding belief, which I have been expressing for several years.
This situation puts the good people of Liverpool in a challenging position, as most major towns and cities are already at capacity due to mass immigration. As a result, more new arrivals will likely be making their way to our city, further burdening an already strained housing market.
In reality, as we saw last week, Britain has now been running record net migration rates of 745,000 in 2022, and 672,000 in 2023.
What does this mean for housing?
It means โas the Centre for Policy Studies points outโ that Britain actually needs to build at least 515,000 new homes each year โmore than half of which are needed just to keep up with the extra demand because of immigration.
