This looks to be less a case of NIMBY-ism and more about growing public realisation that the siting of a mega prison in Finchingfield, Wethersfield - or anywhere else for that matter - is wholly unneccessary.

Idyllic Essex villages could become home to biggest prison complex in the country
Residents of Finchingfield and Wethersfield step up their campaign to block construction of a huge prison facility on former RAF base @DannyShawNews https://t.co/JMoKFnIu1Q
@SwiftJusticeIn1 @JaredForALGov @Yolandaforgov @citizens4jared In my opinion, rehabilitation should begin immediately for all #incarcerated #citizens. But I truly believe in #intervention and #prevention first and foremost. That's why we need to fund @ALMentalHealth and #addiction #resources and #education instead of building #megaprisons.
We believe Wethersfield Airfield should be rewilded not covered in concrete, steel and 24/7 lighting for TWO #MegaPrisons

Our petition to #rewild the mosaic habitat of Wethersfield Airfield instead of covering it in two #MegaPrisons is almost at 10,000 signatures - let's get it across the line so the government has to respond! https://t.co/XqRN4y3AtP

Celebrating our #DarkSkies here in #NorthEssex: this matters to us - we don't want @MoJGovUK to build two #MegaPrisons here, forever destroying our heritage landscape🌟

Some amazing support here from Chris Packham & his followers - the petition signatures are quickly increasing! Here's hoping we can protect #nature from this #MegaPrisons scandal

Wethersfield Airfield is a rural wildlife oasis at risk from 2 mega prisons - the biggest in Europe . The site is home to 401 species of invertebrates , 271 species of plants and 74 species of birds (inc many rare & protected species) @SwapAirfield

The #GreatBardfieldArtists are an important part of the heritage of our rural #NorthEssex landscape, preserving a working, everyday countryside and villages in their art. These villages are now in #ConservationAreas. To put the largest capacity prison in Europe...
Two #MegaPrisons on this remote location make no sense for prisoners who require support for successful rehabilitation, prison employees and local residents.
Exact same applies to the TWO #megaprisons proposed for the airfield. (Chorley 21/01028/OUTMAJ)

If you live in northern Braintree district, it is particularly important that you do the count this year, because it is currently a very dark & unspoilt part of England - but at risk from 2 #megaprisons that will be lit up all night @SwapAirfield
Well done @CpreEssex - great to have this statement about the #megaprisons https://t.co/kmpgjbotI6 @SwapAirfield @ColneStour
@BylinesEast @BraintreeDC Thanks for the opportunity @BylinesEast #MegaPrisons #WildWethersfield @SwapAirfield @elitepartnershp @Michelloui @EdHutchings @ChrisGPackham @ColneStour
Proposals to build two #MegaPrisons - larger than every nearby village, the largest prison in Europe (!), in the middle of the countryside almost 10 miles from the nearest A road - COMPLETELY ILLOGICAL - just look at this for comparison! #WildWethersfield
Do you oppose the proposal of two #MegaPrisons in Wethersfield & all the traffic congestion & destruction they will cause our beautiful villages & countryside? Join your neighbours this Saturday on the Finchingfield green for a photo with the SWAP banner to show your opposition!
