i like it when my reality tunnel is perturbed.

A scarf with AI-recognisable faces on it and a micro aggression deflection visa: 2 of several products + VR experiences developed & marketed by @hyphen_labs in defence + protest of racialised (racist) technologies - presented by Romy Gad el Rab #messyedge @DigitalBrighton
“What history is matters less than how history works” - Judith Ricketts on tracing links to the transatlantic slave trade in Brighton and other hidden/untold stories - presented through film & photography. #visibility #invisibility #messyedge @DigitalBrighton
Have you thought about the impact of GIFs on public health? Flashing GIFs can cause pain and headaches? The Slow GIF movement is here and I’ve just taken my first moment of pause with @armstrongtactic #MessyEdge #BDF18. Useful thought for #BrightonSEO peeps
Diversity + inclusion vs. Equity + justice: what people working with community archiving should be thinking about. @elbfrankland on ethical storydata gathering in relation to her project We Are Not Yet A Robot #messyedge #oralhistories #transhistories @DigitalBrighton
Can you help us re-think the internet? We're looking for creative ideas to take part in our radical project to design a more inclusive & resilient internet @NGI4eu https://t.co/6CLh3AH2hA
Emma Frankland introduces her project Voiceover Brighton, capturing stories from the trans community. Ended with really interesting reframing of the language of Diversity & Inclusion to Equity & Justice, quoting from Dafina-Lazarus Stewart:

“There was a great sense of the culture under attack… of a need (to) put down our roots strongly” #Sinfield -- The Messy Edge of Community Archiving, @wsharon145 presenting at the #MessyEdge @DigitalBrighton #BDF18 #digitalpreservation
Excellent @wsharon145 at #messyedge #BDF18 talking about endangered #communityarchives. In early 2000s some lottery-funded digi archives worked toward recommended tech standards, but many used odd/bespoke platforms, I remember. Within 5 years @50% of #nofdigi projects died...
It's @wsharon145 from @SussexHumsLab on The Messy Edge of Community Archiving. "The right to be forgotten assumes you've been remembered in the first place." #MessyEdge
What’s the defiance? Rn at the #Surveillance section #MessyEdge Conference @DigitalBrighton Festival panel discussion with @nyethompson & @wesleygoatley #BDF18 #ACCA @AttenboroughCtr
A conversation between #Alexa and #Siri by @wesleygoatley: “the whole interaction exposes its bastard edges” - v interesting discussion w @nyethompson @laurencehill on ethics of working with ethically questionable tech #MessyEdge @DigitalBrighton @AttenboroughCtr
Really enjoyed @wesleygoatley reverse-engineering the dark Amazon data-snake at #messyedge #bdf18 I question how much culture funders expect us to align ethically with this. See https://t.co/pF5TGJISAh
The Machine Gaze in action - @nyethompson talking about her work #humanbeingsdigital as well as the software & hardware that fed her data at #messyedge conference @DigitalBrighton @AttenboroughCtr
Nye Thompson (@nyethompson) at #MessyEdge, talking about the project Backdoored, exploring (self-)surveillance. The project collects and archives images taken by searchbots through unsecured surveillance cameras. https://t.co/mI8TYCsKN3
