What do we talk about when we talk about the future? And by ‘we’, I mean voices from the Global South. Qatar’s Northwestern University’s Media Majlis recently launched their exhibition ‘MetaWhat?’ which explores exactly this perspective in their concept of the metaverse, shifting the focus away from the West’s domination of the metaverse narrative. It’s a bold move that is long overdue. The digital frontier is ripe for pioneers, and #Qatar has emerged as one of the digital leaders in the Middle East, adopting an ambitious digital strategy, seeking digital innovation and shaping the space with technological firsts – the first commercial #5G network, the first 5G-powered FIFA World Cup™, and the testing of first-ever 5G aerial taxi. There’s no limit as to what #Qatar’s digital future or concept of a metaverse could be, but it will be something that embraces what makes us unique as Qataris. And this isn’t exclusive. #Digital societies can be developed around different cultures and geographies in such a way as to enhance our differences and specific challenges but that can equally contribute to the broader metaverse narrative. Thank you, Media Majilis for creating this interactive platform. #Innovation thrives with diversity of thought. Can’t wait to check out the exhibit! #UpgradeYourWorld #community #Qatar
