Yesterday and today: good days. I was feeling poorly about being behind on work, apprehensive about the future. Then I did a #LuxArt session with high school students & talked about #MicrobialCentrism. Then some #MicroTweeple went out of their way to help me. We are not alone!
I do get isolated and sad. But last week was very positive. A coauthored manuscript was submitted (with former #DocMartians), my current lab students were awesome, #microtweeple were wonderful, my sons were awesome, and my @swirlgirl31415 was ever-luminous. Art by @HookedByBex

What is the "E. coli" of the archaea? I really think that I need a solid demonstration/simple experiment w an archaean, just to make SURE students get it. I have had bad luck with Halobium, & it's tough to get gelrite for Sulfolobus. Delighted to hear thoughts from #microtweeple.
Hmm. Have anyone among #Microtweeple ever made glycerol stocks by putting colonies into 50% glycerol and store at -80? I have only ever done this from liquid cultures.
Dear #MicroTweeple: attached is one of my fave-rave #MicrobialDemonstrations of quorum sensing. The problem I have is that CV026 only responds to the quite purple wild type Chromobacterium. How I wish I had an organism that was NOT purple that made the correct HSL! (1/2)

Dear #Microtweeple: I have a VERY #OldSkoolMicro question. Has anyone made spontaneous antibiotic resistant mutants of Micrococcus luteus? I'm having a heck of a time. There is much old literature, but usually regarding naturally resistant strains.
