This *hwalisaz apparently had a byform with a different accentuation, viz. *hwalizaz (with a voiced *z caused by Verner’s Law) developing to #OldHighGerman walir, #MiddleHighGerman walre, #German Waller, Weller ‘sheatfish’ (a synonym of Wels).

Erec (also..Ereck) is a #MiddleHighGerman poem written in rhyming couplets by #HartmannVonAue. It is thought to be the earliest of #Hartmann's narrative works
..dates from around 1185. An adaptation of Chrétien de Troyes' Erec et Enide, it is the 1st Arthurian Romance in German.
