Call me pessimistic, but India cannot tax its way into becoming a developed nation. Election after election: Announce freebies. Protect vote banks. Increase spending. Raise revenue. Then tell the productive part of the economy: “Sacrifice today. Viksit Bharat tomorrow.” But the demographic dividend has an expiry date. Young people need skills, jobs, productivity and investment , not an economy built around distributing what it collects. Tax the income. Tax the consumption. Tax the investment. Then wonder why private investment and productivity aren't moving fast enough. India doesn't need more ways to extract from growth. It needs policies that create more growth to tax. That's the difference between redistribution and development.
