Recently a buyer asked me about the differences between #Marange and #Murowa diamonds. I thought it wise to share the differences here just in case anyone may be interested to know.
Both #Marange and #Murowa diamonds are mined in #Zimbabwe, but they have different origins, and characteristics.
Marange Diamonds
Origin:
The Marange diamond fields are located in the Chiadzwa area of eastern Zimbabwe. They are thought to have formed about 2.6 billion years ago, making them one of the oldest diamond deposits in the world.
Characteristics:
Marange diamonds are typically large and dark-colored, with an average size of 5-7 carats. They also have a thin, non-transparent coating that is thought to be the result of radiation damage and metamorphic heating. This coating gives Marange diamonds a distinctive appearance and makes them easier to identify.
Murowa Diamonds
Origin:
The Murowa diamond mine is located near Zvishavane in south-central Zimbabwe. The mine is known for its high-quality white diamonds, with an average clarity of VS2 and an average color of G.
Characteristics:
Murowa diamonds are typically white and colorless, with an average size of 2-3 carats. They are also known for their high clarity and color, making them highly sought after in the jewelry.
In summary, Marange and Murowa diamonds are both significant sources of rough diamonds for the global diamond industry. However, they have different origins and characteristics.
Marange diamonds are typically larger and darker, but they also have a more troubled history. Murowa diamonds are typically whiter and more colorless, and they are known for their high quality and ethical mining practices.

#Murowa 7/7. Stay tuned for the coming twitter thread for the secrets of why the Murowa diamonds are of such a considerably high quality.

#Murowa 6/7. studies show that Murowa enjoys high diamond grade (0.7 ct/metric ton) which is quite significant. This is thanks to the Zimbabwe craton that's constrained to be approximately 200 km deep,
slightly shallower than the 220-240km depth normal.

#Murowa 5/7., while a K2 kimberlite is a steep-sided, sub-circular pipe which flares slightly with depth and is dominantly infilled by massive coherent kimberlite.

#Murowa 4/7. Murowa has K1 and K2 kimberlite type pipes. A K1 kimberlite pipe is an irregular-shaped, multi-lobed kimberlite pipe. Take a see.

#Murowa 3/7. The Murowa and Sese kimberlites erupted through the southern margin of the Zimbabwean craton. These kimberlites provide a unique sample of the continental lithospheric mantle in that area through their entrained mantle xenolith and xenocryst cargo.

#Murowa 2/7. A kimberlite pipe is made of kimberlite by which geological dynamics (e.g. diamonds) from deep within the Earth can be projected violently to the surface. This volcanic corridor through which diamonds are transported to the Earth's surface erupts from 150-240km deep!
