Today, I deliver a statement on behalf of International Women Lawyers Federation and @CastoutSlavery at the 83rd Ordinary session of @ACHPR on the inclusion and promotion of the Rights of CDWD across the African continent and globally.

Recap of Day 2 at the NGO Forum: The day started off with special interest group discussions and later, parallel panels throughout the day. One of the parallel panels featured Chairperson of the East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Network, @dkisngugi , and @Kaka_estella , our Manager of the Advocacy, Research, and Communications department, who took part in an engaging panel discussion on 'Crackdown on Civic Space in East Africa: The Suppression of Human Rights Organisations and the Crisis in Cameroon,' led by @DefendersKE.
Kamau highlighted the widespread challenges faced by civil society organisations and HRDs in East Africa, noting how the region’s crisis is mirrored across the continent. Estella, drawing from civic space monitoring, revealed the harsh reality of the ongoing crackdown on freedoms of expression, assembly, and association, stressing that governments are increasingly coming down on dissent, further oppressing civil society and making it harder for democracy to be upheld and for governments to be held accountable.
A timely and critical discussion that called for unwavering resilience and collective action in defending civic space and human rights.

➡️Enforce anti-slavery laws and prosecute offenders.
➡️Establish an African Reparations Fund backed by the AU and international partners, & more.
