In 2021, I was honored to have legendary NFL linebacker and defensive end Charles Haley (@CharlesHaleyHoF) join me on #NextStepsForward.
Charles, who first played for the San Francisco 49ers, became, in his own words, so difficult for teammates and coaches alike that he was traded to an NFC rival, the Dallas Cowboys. As he would discover, he was living with bipolar disorder which contributed greatly to his behavior.
He spoke candidly on my program about what it is like to live with bipolar and in his book “Fear No Evil: Tackling Quarterbacks and Demons on My Way to the Hall of Fame” he also documents in-depth what it was like suffering from the condition and how he has overcome it. I have been deeply moved by Mr. Haley’s struggle and story of overcoming, particularly the role that God played in maintaining his own mental health and his success in his professional career. For those who are or may know someone who is struggling, I am confident that Charles Haley’s book will embolden readers to overcome adversity in their own lives and find a passion that will inspire them to live and thrive.
For those interested, you can pick up a copy of Charles Haley's book today!

In her latest book "You Don’t Have to Change to Change Everything: Six Ways to Shift Your Vantage Point, Stop Striving for Happy and Find True Well-Being," she writes about not trying to change yourself but instead meeting yourself where you are and how to go about doing that.
Our hour-long discussion focused heavily on:
✅ the concept of “change”
✅ why we don’t have to “change to change everything”
✅ and how change still comes about if we’re not exactly changing ourselves.

I was honored to previously sit down with Dr. Sandra Bond Chapman, the founder of the Center for BrainHealth (@BrainHealth), to interview her on #NextStepsForward. For those that don't know, the Center for Brain Health is a research institute at the The University of Texas at Dallas, where Dr. Chapman also serves as the Dee Wyly Distinguished Professor in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences. I greatly admire the work she is doing to change the narrative surrounding brain disease and encouraging the general population to accept the importance of brain health and the advantages of living a brain-healthy life.
In her book "Make Your Brain Smarter," Dr. Chapman lays out the latest research in brain science and shows readers exercises that are designed to improve the brain and strengthen its capacity to think smarter. This includes strategies to combat stress and anxiety, increase productivity and enhance decision making. This is a book that will benefit everyone, no matter your age. It's contents will improve every day life and jump start brain performance.
