Wow, what a room! After eating so much dust today from Qala-e-Naw to Maimana, I think I was carrying about 10 kg of it with me ๐คฃ. Uzbeki pulao and naan, along with local yogurt and pickle, washed away all my tiredness after 283 km of riding.

@paultrowntree @h1bennett This assumes the Plymouth Metro happens, of course. It's an aspiration, but one which doesn't come without cost and capacity issues which could handicap other things, such as #NorthernRoute and freight. But it's a concept at the moment rather than a firm plan.
@paultrowntree @h1bennett 'Lot' is the operative word. Gunnislake is a challenge on reopened #NorthernRoute - do you use that to provide a core local service to Plymouth? Do you run through on the main line and use VLR from BA? Much to consider - it's an important link.

@joncstone @GarethDennis @AndreJorda96806 @NorthernRouteWG In a perfect world youโd probably do #NorthernRoute first as itโs relatively quick and cheap to do. That gets you the additional route and then you open up longer blockades on the coastal railway for upgrades. Which are cheaper quicker and more efficient than shorter closures.
We talk about reopening the #NorthernRoute as a relatively quick and cheap way of providing an inland railway between Plymouth and Exeter. As @GarethDennis points out though, the ultimate solution is a brand new railway to modern standards.

@GarethDennis @AndreJorda96806 That is the ultimate version - no question. Shorter, much faster and better. #NorthernRoute was always the cheaper and quicker to build alternative to a new main line south of Dartmoor. Iโll take either gladly!
@John_The_Fitter Yes, the orange army did a fabulous job at #Dawlish but that whole coastal stretch is vulnerable. It will have to be strengthened at some point and the #NorthernRoute enables longer and more efficient blockades when you do.
