@DerrickEvans4WV Apparently we now have the ability to interview ghosts. #NotGoodNewsWriting @THEChrisLittle
hey @KTLA …nobody is “bracing” for rain. It’s not only lazy news writing it’s not even true… We are “anticipating” rain… but absolutely nobody in SoCal is “bracing” for it! It’s just not true. Go to https://t.co/2AwImkB1MT… pick another word … #bracing #notgoodnewswriting

Thank you @KristleAdler for this #notgoodnewswriting gem from @ABC7. No, the murder did not happen in the 2nd trial.

In this edition of #notgoodnewswriting, we stumble upon an LA radio station reporting the Pope "died from a cerebral stroke." That's like saying somebody had a cardio heart attack. Check out my podcast, on Spotify, entitled The Death of News, for more journalistic tidbits.

Season 1. Episode 1. Spawned by #NotGoodNewsWriting
"I didn't hear anything," says a woman, to @KTLA, about the crash in which a San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputy was killed today. She didn't hear anything or see the crash. We heard from a witness, who wasn't really a witness, and witnessed nothing. Why? #notgoodnewswriting
Lately, @CNN's thing is quoting the last 3-4 words of a clip immediately after it plays. This morning, so far, it's "Hanging like bats," followed by"Upside down and burning." All of this comes as we're told to "take a listen." Why? It's like a tick. #notgoodnewswriting
Still bad form for reporters to tell listeners what to do. Reporters are supposed to report, not tell. Three TV reporters, in the 10pm news, on one particular station said, "Take a listen" 5 times in 15 minutes. Just roll the video.

This isn't our job, people. Also, the author's capitalization game is off.

Just heard a TV anchor say the Palisades fire is "twice the size of Manhattan." I've been to Manhattan twice, and I don't know its measurements. Had to look it up. He could have just said the size of Rancho Cucamonga. #notgoodnewswriting
Two examples of how not to report a story. Second hand information is bad information and lazy journalism. Listen to these first two people who were allegedly TOLD what happened. That's not how it's done @FOXLA.
And no yes/no questions.

Happy New Year. Remember to always write conversationally.

Here. Weee. Goooo! The first news site I clicked on, moments ago, had a reporter live from an airport, not reporting, but TELLING me what to do. It had something to do with time, and giving myself more of something. Reporters: Remember, your job is to report. #NotGoodNewsWriting
To my friends in journalism (and everyone else): There is no degree of uniqueness. A COVID variant, for example, is either unique or it is not. It is definitely not "very unique."
#NotGoodNewsWriting
Oh, the irony! Good catch Looney! #notgoodnewswriting
The definition of irony is a fire at the fire station… It’s also ironic when a person who uses words for a living … @mbmcdade … misused the word “ironically” —while reporting on a fire at the fire station !

From an LA media outlet:
"A man from Michigan was charged on Sunday with making threats to kill President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and other senior government officials on social media."
So, just the ones who are on social media?
#NotGoodNewsWriting LA TV website: "Redondo Beach 15-year-old honored for her anti- harassment efforts at the White House." Better: Redondo Beach 15-year-old honored at the White House for her anti- harassment efforts. Of course, there could be harassing going on at the WH.
From a Los Angeles TV website today:
"A missing Southern California family’s cat has been found 12 years later and has been reunited with its owners who have since moved all the way to Washington state."
What was missing? Hint: No humans.

Hurricane Hilary Cliche Watch.
So far:
*Better safe than sorry
*Bracing
*Out of harm's way
*Hunker down
*Pack a punch
*Batten down the hatches
Don't be part of the problem.🌀⛈️

Here we go again. Some reporters have, once again, shifted from reporting, to telling us what to do when the temperature exceeds a certain number. Not sure what that number is. #notgoodnewswriting
