Withdrawing from my PhD was gut wrenching, but absolutely the right decision for me, for my family, & made for the right reasons - especially as @PruStubbs & I welcomed our first baby in January (I am already one ridiculously proud dad).

A good morning in the @NTC_Manchester library today, and great to get to a (socially distanced) #CoffeeBreak.
Also got a new no.1 entry in the #NotABookmark hall of fame, a church's address book - oh my. Please, check your library books before returning them.

First half of today's @CenSamm Video Games & Religion: #Apocalypse & Utopia conference successfully survived. Highlights included utopia, dystopia, & Bioshock, apocalyptic culture in Mad Max, & a consideration of demons in Shin Megami Tensei.

Always fascinated, sometimes surprised, by the 'bookmarks' I find in @NTC_Manchester's library.
Post-its, great.
Paper scraps, fine.
Receipts, eh.
Pencils, don't.
Food wrappers, please no.
But today's winner, a baby's ultrasound image.

Wonderful surprise in the post today. Overwhelmed to see my name in print, my first chapter published - exploring #permadeath in #MordheimCOTD.
Thanks @MattCowardGibbs & @EmeraldGlobal for the opportunity & a positive first experience.

Made it to my first @NTC_Manchester coffee break since lockdown yesterday. A weird but welcome time, great to see people again.
Return of students also means return of library books, and 'bookmarks' - including a pencil & Christmas card.

@DrAmandaSuper @SuFowlerJohnson My husband is a PhD student... he's a great one for:
1. Knowing his area, skills and gaps;
2. Listening to everyone in the rooms experience and then bringing a good summation that helps the group
3. Being swan-like #OGHPhD
Good time in the @NTC_Manchester library today, prepping books for the new semester. Forgot how challenging attaching labels in gloves was (#LabSkills flashback).
However, library's empty so I could listen to @WTofficial, @sabaton, and @NightwishBand while I worked.

Excited for the release of 'Death, Culture and Leisure: Playing Dead', & not just because I have a chapter in it exploring #Permadeath in #MordheimCOTD.
Thanks to @MattCowardGibbs & my PhD supervisors (@Andrew_Crome & @kweh) for helping me hit this academic milestone.

Completed another PhD milestone today, delivering my first paper for @NTC_Manchester's #SeminarWednesday.
Discussing #VideoGames & 'The End of the World as we Know it', in my #Fallout hoodie, via webcam, from isolation, during an actual pandemic, definitely surreal.

Update for all @NTC_Manchester library users:
* Do not attempt returns at this time,
* All due dates since March 9th extended to June 2nd,
* Email responses will be delayed,
* We're doing what we can to help,
* Stay safe & sane out there,
NTC Library team

We may be enduring a global pandemic. We may be in self-isolation. We may be facing a raft of uncertainties. We are definitely living in 'unusual times'. But 11am is still @NTC_Manchester coffee time.

Interesting day in the @NTC_Manchester library yesterday. Classes are back, & so are the students, bringing in a shed load of returns.
So, no time to work on the growing repairs pile - did add another 90 damaged items to it though, & some may not survive.
#LibraryLife #OGHPhD
Classes may not have started yet, but it was back to the @NTC_Manchester library for me today. Didn't quite clear the returns shelf, but did manage to check and tidy all the stacks, clear the emails, contact IT support, and repair another few books.

Last shift in the @NTC_Manchester library before the Christmas break - we will be closed until New Year so if students need anything, now's your chance.
Just a few more hours organising & tidying shelves, and maybe some more minor book repairs, to go.

@PruStubbs @Schwarzenegger @Terminator Great to spend an evening out, enjoying one our 'go to' franchises, especially after the challenges of this academic year. Really interesting addition to the #Terminator universe.
Slightly spoilt by a constant high-pitched buzz throughout at @cinedidsbury (@cineworld)
#OGHPhD
What better way to celebrate @J_D_Stubbs continuing #OGHPhD life studying 'Apocalyptic Imagery in Video Games' than watching #LindaHamilton kick butt with @Schwarzenegger in @Terminator!
Some days, #PhDLife can be a lonely, tiring slog, that feels endless, like you know less than you did at the start, and you're not sure why you thought it was a good idea.
Other days, the handyman asks about your project and you share some #Videogame music.

Fear not, anxious researchers & scholars of @NTC_Manchester. Our noble 'Guardian of Wisdom' (librarian), Helen Stocker, has not left the 'Halls of Knowledge' (library) unattended during her study-day. I have been appointed 'Chief Stand-in' for the day.
