Latest Update on Electricity Outage Eskom advises customers that the estimated time of restoration for the electricity outage affecting Oudtshoorn and surrounding areas has been extended to approximately 22:00 tonight.
Eskom sincerely apologises to affected customers and communities for the extended duration of the outage and the disruption and inconvenience caused.
Our technical teams have been working continuously since the outage occurred to restore electricity supply as safely and efficiently as possible.
The restoration process has been particularly complex, and although employees have worked tirelessly to restore supply, additional technical difficulties were encountered throughout the restoration work, including the challenging terrain in which the teams are operating.
The teams remain on site and are continuing with the necessary work to restore supply.
The safety of employees remains Eskom’s priority, and all required technical and safety procedures must be completed before the line can be safely energised.
Eskom acknowledges the frustration and inconvenience caused by the prolonged outage and sincerely appreciates the patience and understanding of affected customers and communities during this challenging period.

Eskom technicians continue to make steady progress in restoring electricity supply to areas affected by severe and ongoing adverse weather conditions across the Garden Route. Additional Eskom teams from unaffected areas are being deployed to support local crews and help accelerate restoration efforts.
In Bitou Municipality (Plettenberg Bay), most areas have been restored. In the areas still affected, the Eskom teams are strategically working from the substation and progressing down the damaged lines to restore supply to customers in Rheenendal, Nature’s Valley, Harkerville, and The Crags. In these areas access remains difficult due to flooding, strong winds, and trees obstructing pathway to restore the power lines.
All critical supply points, such as clinics, water and sewerage pump supplies in these areas remains prioritity when the conditions are favourable for repairs.
In Sedgefield, Eskom supply has been restored to the municipality bulk point.
Oudtshoorn has been significantly impacted by the storms. Eskom teams are currently on site, re-assessing the ground and access conditions and will restore customers where possible. Safety of our staff remains our top priority as we navigate the recovery process.
In Leeu Gamka, a fault has been reported to Eskom, and teams are currently attending to the repairs, with an estimated time of restoration at 13:00 today, 9 May 2026.
Eskom technical teams remain actively deployed, working under difficult conditions to carry out fault-finding and repairs as safely and efficiently as possible.
Eskom would like to thank its customers for their patience, understanding and support during this challenging time while teams continue working to restore electricity supply as safely and quickly as possible.
