As part of the probe, police planned to question another woman police inspector and a journalist in connection with the allegations. Preliminary inquiries indicated that the journalist, who was reported to have contacts with bureaucrats and political leaders, the police inspector and a businessman had taken part in negotiations. Investigators were examining whether they acted on the instructions of a senior police officer or political leaders. The police were also tracing the financial transactions involving Veeramani and examining the movement of funds between individuals linked to the case. The inquiry was aimed at establishing whether money had changed hands to influence the investigation or other aspects of the case. Investigators were expected to question the persons summoned or detained and examine financial records and other material gathered during the probe.
