#WATCH | Delhi: On Pakistan carrying out airstrikes on Afghanistan, MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal says, "We strongly condemn the attacks from Pakistan. The airstrikes were launched on Afghanistan in its Kunar and Paktika provinces. In these airstrikes, several civilians have been killed. We deeply offer our condolences on the precious lives lost. We also hope that those who have been injured in this attack recover well and recover soon. The Path to Regional Peace and Stability: Break the Link Between Pakistan's Destabilizing Actions and US Strategic Cover
First of all, I strongly condemn Pakistan's bombing of #Kunar and #Paktika provinces, which once again killed at least three civilians, including a woman, and injured several others.
Pakistan's old dual policy of nurturing terrorists and proxies while bombing civilians in Afghanistan under the deliberate falsehood of "counterterrorism", poses a fundamental threat to regional stability. It fuels cycles of violence, displacement, and humanitarian suffering.
Pakistan's military states specious reasons and hides its real motives for bombing civilians in Afghanistan. Why and how?
1. Whenever Saudi Arabia needed Pakistan's military support under its mutual defence agreement (SMDA), Pakistan's military carried out bombing in Afghanistan. For the Pakistani generals, it's a good pretext to escape from their Saudi defence obligations. This happened in the past, and it is happening again.
2. For its trilateral security alliance with Saudi Arabia and Turkey, the Pakistani military is trying to project its power and military capability. But in reality, as a nuclear-armed country that has never won a single war in its short history, it is projecting power against powerless civilians in Afghanistan.
3. To the world, the Pakistani military frames its terrorism in Afghanistan as "counterterrorism" against the TTP and ISIS-K, both Pakistan based groups.
4. As it was seen repeatedly, the Trump administration publicly backed Pakistan's terror actions in Afghanistan. This is not coincidental. Pakistan's military is aligning with the Trump administration's regional agenda. Islamabad continues to serve Washington as a key US partner in the region. By bombing Afghanistan, it is seeking to destabilise and weaken Afghanistan to accept Trump's demands, and all this by inflicting devastating civilian harm in Afghanistan.
Now the goal for regional countries (Russia, China, India, and Iran) should be to have a coordinated strategy to pressure Pakistan on its destabilizing actions.
Regional powers should strengthen the Moscow Format and collectively support the UN call for a permanent ceasefire and an independent investigation into Pakistan's attacks on civilian infrastructure in Afghanistan.
It is time to deny Trump's administration unilateralism and what it seeks in the region. It is imperative to break the link between Pakistan's destabilizing actions in the region and US strategic cover.
