Pashdan Dam partial filling in #Herat #Afghanistan has started. The dam maximum storage capacity of 54 million M3 is not possible at the moment as the relocation of part of Herat-Maimana highway from the dam's inundation area has not begun yet.

#Pashdan Dam on Karukh River, in Harirud River Basin, was inaugurated today. Located in northwestern #Afghanistan, Harirud-Murghab Basin has an average renewable surface water potential of 2.5 billion m³ & Afg currently has the capacity to store only about 0.65 billion m³ (26%).

Pashdan dam in #Herat #Afghanistan has recently started to store water for the first time. This dam however, can't store water to its designed level (👇today's image), because part of Afg ring-road is located inside the storage area & as of now, the road is not relocated.

[#UPDATE] The initial construction of #Pashdan Dam, located in Karukh district of #Herat city, has resumed after 2 years. The dam has the ability to generate energy with the storage of 54M cubic metres of water & can irrigate more than 13,000 hectares of land.

Armed men killed 3 guards of the #Pashdan multipurpose dam in #Herat. AFG officials have repeatedly accused Iran of supporting the Taliban to prevent the construction of dams in the western region. The Dam will hold 40 million cubic metres of water& generate 2MW of electricity.

Three security force members, who were assigned to protect the Pashdan dam in Herat, were killed in an attack by unidentified armed men early this morning, said Nizamuddin Khpulwak, spokesman for National Water Affairs Regulation Authority.
