En raison du blocus imposé à la population de Minembwe par les militaires burundais, les FARDC et les Wazalendo, des femmes — principalement Banyamulenge et Bashi — ainsi que quelques hommes ont décidé de prendre le risque de briser ce blocus pour aller chercher de la nourriture pour leurs enfants afin de ne pas les laisser mourir de faim. Ils ont traversé tous les hauts plateaux et ont pu acheter un peu de nourriture après au moins deux jours de marche.
Au retour, ce matin à 5 heures, les 80 à 100 personnes qui composaient le convoi sont tombées dans une embuscade de la coalition FDNB Burundi/FARDC/Mai-Mai, qui a ouvert le feu sur ces malheureux. Les soldats burundais venaient de leur camp de Mikalati avec certains FARDC, tandis que les Wazalendo et d’autres FARDC arrivaient de Kipupu via Kigazura.
Une unité de Twirwaneho est venue depuis Mikenke pour secourir ces personnes en détresse. Malheureusement, le mal était déjà fait. Les gens s’étaient déjà dispersés dans les buissons et les forêts environnantes. Tandis que Twirwaneho affrontait ces Mai-Mai/FARDC — qu’ils ont repoussés jusqu’à Kipupu — les soldats burundais poursuivaient les rescapés dans leurs cachettes, en tuaient certains et en prenaient d’autres en otage avant de les conduire au camp. D’autres — près de 30 — sont toujours portés disparus dans la brousse, vivants ou morts.
Le bilan fait état de 4 hommes tués par des balles burundaises et FARDC. Des sources fiables parlent également de 45 personnes — majoritairement des femmes — détenues au camp de Mikalati par la FDN-Burundi et les FARDC, tandis que seulement 27 personnes sont parvenues à Mikenke après avoir tout perdu.
Il convient de souligner que lors de ces affrontements, la coalition du mal a fait appel à un appui aérien. Un hélicoptère est intervenu et a tiré sur Twirwaneho. Sur le chemin du retour, menaçant les villages de Minembwe, il a été touché et s’est écrasé dans le lac.
Je dénonce ce blocus, qui constitue un crime contre l’humanité, et je condamne cette volonté de détruire les éléments fondamentaux de la vie d’un groupe ethnique en le tuant par la faim. C’est pire que la torture : c’est la forme la plus déshumanisante de persécution. Et pourtant, l’humanité entière reste silencieuse.
Ces armées peuvent faire la guerre, c’est leur droit, mais s’en prendre systématiquement à une communauté sur la base de son apparence et de sa langue est un crime indicible, et sachez-le : il est imprescriptible.

The RDF Reserve Force Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Alex Kagame, Eastern Province Governor Pudence Rubingisa and the mayor of Bugesera District Richard Mutabazi, today inaugurated a touristic boat built by the local reservists’ cooperative (Amarebe cycle boat tour) in Bugesera District.
The initiative represents a significant investment in the district’s tourism and is expected to boost local tourism by facilitating transport on Lake MIRAYI, a key natural attraction in Bugesera District. The project cost around 40 million Rwf.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Maj Gen Kagame commended the cooperative for its initiative and praised the spirit of collaboration among them.
He encouraged members of the cooperative to continue working collectively, noting that cooperatives are an effective model for socio-economic development. He also reaffirmed the RDF’s commitment to supporting such initiatives, especially those that demonstrate a strong vision for community development.
