💔 They beat him with a metal pipe, shot at his back, sexually assaulted him and locked him in a psychiatric hospital — simply because he was Ukrainian. 29-year-old Marko Kaliush spent almost two years in russian captivity. He was abducted in the middle of the street in occupied Melitopol. FSB officers surrounded him with guns, forced him face-down, handcuffed him and put a bag over his head. At the commandant’s office, they tortured him with electric shocks and threatened him with a pistol, demanding that he sign documents. He signed nothing. Instead, the occupiers fabricated a case against him and presented him on russian media as a “Ukrainian terrorist.” Then came the detention centers and prisons in Melitopol, Mariupol, Krasnodar, Rostov and occupied Donetsk. Batons. Tasers. Handcuffs tightened until they drew blood. Prisoners forced to sing the russian anthem. Then they sent Marko to a psychiatric hospital in occupied Zhdanivka for “forced treatment.” It was another torture chamber. Militants beat him with their fists and feet, kicked him in the kidneys, tied him to a bed and beat him with a metal pipe. Then came sexual violence — something Marko can barely speak about. He remembers the names of everyone who tortured him. On August 24, 2025, he was finally told he was going home. Blindfolded and handcuffed, he was transported through Chelyabinsk, Moscow and Belarus. He had no idea where he was being taken. He thought they were taking him back to Crimea. Back to the torture chamber. Then — freedom. His first feeling wasn’t joy. It was fear. He thought it was a dream, that he would wake up and find himself back in that psychiatric hospital. Almost two years of hell. Electric shocks. A metal pipe. Sexual violence. A psychiatric hospital.
